The Groundfridge combines various natural principles with smart technological solutions from our engineers:"

  • Ground temperature

    The ground temperature at 1-meter depth in your region has the greatest influence on the temperature of the Groundfridge. Additionally, groundwater in contact with the Groundfridge has a cooling effect.

  • Evaporation and shading

    By smartly choosing the exact location of the Groundfridge, you prevent the ground and the door from heating up directly from the sun. In addition, planting on the Groundfridge helps create extra shade and uniform evaporation of groundwater, which provides extra cooling.

  • Solar-powered ventilation

    By ventilating at the coldest time of night, you can lower the temperature in the Groundfridge as much as possible. In periods of severe frost, you can adjust this as well.

  • Smart door

    In addition to solid insulation, the Groundfridge door offers space for the adjustable ventilation system.

Installation

  • Determine the best place

    Approximately 25 m2 of space is required for the installation of a Groundfridge. For best performance, choose a north-facing location, sheltered by trees. Generally, no permit is needed for the placement.

  • Dig the hole

    The hole must be dug to a depth of about 2 meters and a diameter of 5 meters. First, fill it with a small layer of white sand. If the groundwater level is high, first place a standard concrete slab under the Groundfridge and attach it to the lifting eyes.

  • Place the Groundfridge

    A local landscaper or construction company can place the Groundfridge with the help of an 8-ton excavator. You carefully lower the Groundfridge into the excavated hole using its lifting eyes.

  • Plant the hill

    Instead of removing the excavated soil, you use it as a one-meter insulation layer to cover the sphere. Once the mound is sown with grass or flowers, only the door will remain visible.
